Combat, orbs and the death system

  • 09-15-2008

On Taborea, there has always been conflict.
It’s not important whether it’s between the people themselves, or relics of the past such as monsters and demons. The important thing is for adventurers and prospective hero’s to know how to defend themselves.

With the multitude of possible combinations through the dual-class system, each with different skills, one can learn how to protect themselves.
The various classes and class combinations are even more beneficial in a group.
For example, it may be a good idea for the Scout in a group to pull the enemy from a distance with a ranged attack and then let the Knight rush forward casting continuous instant spells.
Also, when things get too precarious, a warrior can let out a battle cry sending the enemies scurrying.

The combat system of Runes of Magic offers plenty of options to defeat the various monsters.
Hold enemies in place, “kite”, draw out their rage, daze, weaken and to cause fear.
These are just some of the many available skills in Runes of Magic, to help you secure victory.

In rare cases, fallen opponents leave a part of their essence behind which is then transformed into so-called “Orbs”. Touching these orbs causes the player to receive a beneficial buff for a short period of time.

Of course, heroes don’t always win. Death can be waiting around any corner, and can get you at any time, even when a fight has almost been won.
In Runes of Magic, one can always be resurrected. You will either be returned to one of the rune structures which you last visited, or you can be resurrected on the spot by a priest in your group.

Dying has of course it’s drawbacks as well. Not only will ones weapons be damaged from the fight, but the late adventurer will be weakened for a certain period of time after resurrection and they will lose some experience as well (but no level).
Therefore having a large and capable group with many different skills is much more advantageous.
