Introducing Dustdevil Canyon!

  • 09-29-2008

Our previous journey took us through the snowy Ystra Highlands; we are now going to enter a place much different.  The heavy fur coats and warm clothes can now be thrown aside, as you will not need them where we are going... Dustdevil Canyon. Here the sun rules and beats down unforgiving!
With temperatures over 100° it is almost unbearable even for experienced adventurers.
Anyone wearing metal armor here shouldn't need to wonder when the water supply runs short earlier then expected.

Never-ending dunes of red-yellow sand, raised dust clouds which prevent any distant visibility, and rock formations of epic proportion reach high into the sky. There is very little water that can be found here, and that which exists is very difficult to reach. The water has cut through the landscape for centuries forming the deep canyon, and continues to this day.

Those who believe that no life could exist in such a harsh environment, are dead wrong.
Not only can scorpions, lizards and spiders be found on the trails and passages, they even thrive in the heat of the sun and are much larger then the smaller species.
The tribal ants are especially large and have established their territory in deep caves underneath the sand dunes.
Those traveling through this area will see the giant ant mounds towering into the sky from afar, and one would be wise to steer their caravans around them making sure they do not come too close.

Humans are known to be able to adapt to every situation, so it's hardly surprising that even in these inhospitable conditions civilization has survived.
The mighty walls of the fortress protect not only against the heat of the day, but also against the dangers of the desert.
From here expeditions and adventurers set off regularly through the stony desert in search of the vast deposits of precious metals which exist here.

The deserts here are as large as they are dangerous.
Only well experienced adventurers should consider entering this harsh and unforgiving area.
